What do I need to open an account?

Download the Taptap Send app on iOS or Android and sign up with your phone number.

You need to be a resident in one of the states we are licensed in (see list below). You will have to provide us with a home address, a billing address and physically be located in a state that we are licensed in to open an account.

How can I send money?

You can pay by debit card. We accept most major cards, including Discover.

A Taptap Send wallet is also available as a payment method for eligible users. If available to you, it will appear on the app homescreen and when you choose the payment method.

See our dedicated article What cards can I use with Taptap Send? for more information about which cards we accept.

How much does it cost to send money?

Fees depend on where you're sending. For some destinations, a transfer fee applies — you'll see the exact amount before you confirm. For others, there's no transfer fee, but we make a small margin on the exchange rate.

Either way, the full cost is shown upfront in the app. Check your destination's sending guide for the specifics.

How do I verify my account?

To increase your sending limits and keep Taptap Send safe and secure, you'll need to verify your identity in the app. You'll be asked to submit a photo ID and a selfie.

Accepted documents
US passport or passport card
US driving licence
US permanent resident card
Other US government-issued photo ID (e.g. military ID, employment authorisation card, refugee document)

Non-US documents are generally not accepted, with the exception of some destination country passports.

What are my sending limits?

Your sending limits depend on your verification level. The standard limits for sending from the United States are:

Per transfer Daily limit 14-day limit
Most states $10,000 $10,000 $24,000
New Mexico & Oklahoma $999 $999

What if something goes wrong with my transfer?

US customers have specific rights under federal law:

Within 30 minutes: You can cancel any transfer within 30 minutes of sending, as long as the funds haven't been delivered. Contact support with your transfer ID and we'll process the cancellation.

Within 180 days: If you think an error was made, contact us within 180 days of the promised delivery date. We'll investigate within 90 days and keep you updated.

For full details on your rights, see: What are my rights when sending money from the United States?

Why am I being asked to update my address?

We've introduced new address validation to make sure your transfers go smoothly. Please update your home address to match this format:

  • Address line 1: must start with a number followed by the street name (e.g. 123 Main Street)
  • City: letters only
  • State: 2-letter code only (e.g. CA, NY)

This is a one-time update. Once saved, you can continue your transfer straight away.
