Can I cancel my transfer or get a refund?
If your transfer has already been delivered, recalling the funds can be difficult and take time. It is sometimes easier to resolve this directly with the recipient. Contact our support team through the app and we will look into what options are available. You can also refer to our global article Can I cancel or get a refund for my transfer?
For your recipient
Does my recipient need to do anything?
Alipay: Yes, if it's their first time receiving. Within 72 hours of getting the notification, they must complete real name authentication, sign the service agreement, and choose to receive to their Alipay balance or a linked bank card. If they don't finish in time, the transfer is cancelled and refunded to you.
WeChat Pay: Yes, if it's their first time receiving. Within 48 hours of getting the SMS or WeChat message, they must authorise their account, choose WeChat Balance or a linked bank card, complete face verification, and fill in their personal details. If they don't finish in time, the transfer is cancelled and refunded to you.
UnionPay: No action needed. Funds are sent directly to their bank card.
What details does my recipient need to provide?
Alipay: Their full name exactly as it appears on their Alipay account and ID (China Resident ID, or Mainland Travel Permit for HK/Macau residents), and the phone number registered with Alipay.
WeChat Pay: Their full name in pinyin exactly as registered with WeChat Pay, and the mobile number linked to their WeChat Pay account.
UnionPay: Their full name and UnionPay card number.
If the name or ID doesn't match what's on file, the transfer cannot be completed.
You'll also need to select a reason for the transfer, such as family support, salary, savings, goods, or services, as required by Chinese regulation. Depending on the reason, your recipient may be asked to confirm their relationship to you, or provide supporting documents like a kinship letter, payslip, or invoice.
How does my recipient cash out?
Alipay: If it's their first transfer, they'll get a notification in the Alipay app. They tap through to complete real name authentication, sign the agreement, and choose Alipay balance or a linked bank card to receive. Returning recipients usually get funds within minutes.
WeChat Pay: If it's their first transfer, they'll get an SMS or a WeChat message card with a link. Opening it takes them to the WeRemit mini program, where they authorise their account, choose WeChat Balance or a linked bank card, complete face verification, and accept the service terms. If asked, they confirm their relationship to you. Funds are usually available within minutes once done. They can track the transfer by following the WeRemit official account in WeChat, or checking My Orders in the WeRemit mini program.
If your recipient doesn't receive the SMS, they can open WeChat directly and go to Weihuikuan (WeRemit), then Global Remittance, then Receive Money via Phone Number.
UnionPay: Funds are deposited directly into their bank card. No further steps required.
What if my recipient's transfer is cancelled or delayed?
This usually happens if your recipient didn't complete their first time setup in time, their name or ID doesn't match their account details, they've reached a sending limit, or requested documents weren't provided. If the setup window expires, the transfer is automatically cancelled and refunded to you. You can resend once your recipient has completed the required setup.
If your recipient needs help directly, they can contact Alipay or WeChat support from within their app. For WeChat, it helps to include a screenshot and the order number starting with "R".
