What is a Virtual Bank Account (VBA) and how does it work?
Think of virtual account details as your own personal bank account, but inside the Taptap Send app. Depending on where you are, you will get an account number and sort code, an IBAN, or a US routing number and account number, just like with a regular bank account. You can share these details with anyone who needs to send money to you, such as your employer, a friend, or a family member. The money lands straight in your Taptap Send Wallet.
Who can get virtual account details?
Virtual account details are currently available to a select number of customers in the UK, the EU, and the US. If you have access, you will be able to see your account details in the app.
How do I find or activate my virtual account details?
If you are a Taptap Send cardholder, you already have virtual account details. Tap on your GBP, EUR, or USD wallet on the home screen. You will land on a page showing your balance. Below the balance, you will see a bank icon with your account details next to it. Tap on that row to open the Receive page, where all your account details are shown. You can also use the Share details button to send the details to someone directly.
If you do not have a card but you do have a GBP, EUR, or USD wallet, the steps are the same. Tap on your wallet, then tap on the account details row to see your full details.
What details will I see?
The details shown depend on which wallet you hold:
- GBP wallet (UK): You will see an account number, a sort code, and an IBAN.
- EUR wallet (EU): You will see an IBAN. A sort code does not apply to EUR accounts.
- USD wallet (US): You will see a routing number and an account number. Neither a sort code nor an IBAN apply to USD accounts.
Can I receive my salary or benefits using these details?
Yes. You can share your virtual account details with your employer or benefits provider, and receive your salary or benefits directly into your Taptap Send Wallet. This works the same way as receiving any other bank transfer — just share the relevant details for your wallet (your account number and sort code, your IBAN, or your routing and account number) with them. Please check with your employer or provider that they support incoming transfers to third-party accounts.
How do I get a proof of account letter?
If you need to prove your account details, for example to share with your employer, you can download a proof of account letter directly from the app:
- 1Tap on your GBP, EUR, or USD wallet on the home screen
- 2Tap Manage
- 3Tap Proof of account details
Why does my account show a different bank name?
No need to worry, this is completely normal. Your virtual account details are provided by one of our banking partners, and which one you see depends on where you are:
- UK (GBP wallet): Your account is provided by ClearBank Limited, authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority.
- EU (EUR wallet): Your account is provided by ClearBank Europe N.V., authorised by the European Central Bank and regulated by De Nederlandsche Bank.
- US (USD wallet): Your account is provided by Lead Bank, a Missouri state-chartered bank and a completely separate institution from ClearBank. Member FDIC.
How long does it take for funds to arrive?
Transfer times depend on how the money is being sent. In most cases, transfers arrive quickly, often within a few hours. Some transfers may take up to one business day. If funds have not arrived after one business day, contact us through the app and we will look into it for you.
Can I turn off the Confirmation of Payee check?
Yes, you can. Contact us via the app and let us know you would like to turn it off. Our team will sort it for you.
Payments will still go through as normal after that. The matching check just will not apply anymore.
