How does my recipient collect mobile money?

If you've sent money to a mobile wallet (also called mobile money), here's what your recipient needs to know and what to do if the money hasn't arrived.

What is a mobile wallet?

A mobile wallet is a digital account linked to a phone number. Your recipient doesn't need a bank account. Once the money arrives, they can pay for things directly, send it to others, or withdraw cash at a local agent.

Does your recipient need to do anything?

No, the money arrives in their wallet automatically. They'll usually get a notification from their wallet provider when the payment lands.

Important: their wallet must be active and registered under the exact mobile number you entered when sending.

How long does it take?

Most mobile wallet transfers arrive in under 5 minutes, any day, any hour, including weekends and holidays.

How does your recipient withdraw cash?

Once money is in the wallet, your recipient can withdraw it as cash at any authorised agent location. Each wallet has its own agent network; they can find the nearest agent in their wallet app or on the wallet provider's website.

The wallet provider may charge a withdrawal fee. This is separate from Taptap Send's fees and is set by the local provider.

What if the money hasn't arrived by the expected time?

Your money is safe. Here's what to check:

  1. 1Ask your recipient to check their wallet balance and recent transactions. If their wallet is full, they may need to withdraw some funds first to make space for new transfers
  2. 2Double-check the mobile number you entered when sending, even one digit wrong means the money goes to the wrong account
  3. 3Ask your recipient to confirm their wallet is active and registered with their provider
  4. 4If none of the above helped, contact us through the app and include your transfer ID

Common reasons a mobile money transfer might be delayed

  • The recipient's wallet isn't active or isn't registered yet
  • The wallet provider is experiencing a temporary technical issue
  • The recipient's wallet is full or the transfer amount exceeds their operator's limit
  • During religious celebrations or local bank holidays, wallet transfers may be slower
