Cancelling a transfer or requesting a refund

If your transfer has already been delivered, recalling the funds can be difficult and take time. It is sometimes easier for you to resolve this directly with the recipient who received your funds. Contact our support team through the app and we will look into what options are available for your transfer. If no options exist, we will let you know. You can also refer to our global article Can I cancel or get a refund for my transfer?

For your recipient

Does my recipient need to do anything?

Bank transfer (JMD / USD): First-time recipients need to complete a one-time identity verification (KYC) form before funds can be credited to their account. This can be done at a bank branch, by phone, or online. Once completed, funds typically arrive within 2 to 24 hours depending on the bank. Returning recipients who have already completed KYC usually receive funds the same day.

Note: if your recipient does not complete the form, the transfer will remain pending and may be cancelled after 7 days.

Bank pickup / Cash pickup: Your recipient will receive an SMS once funds are ready. They need to visit a VMBS or JMMB branch with a valid government-issued ID. Funds are typically available within minutes.

PayToCard: No action needed. Funds go directly to the card.

Prepaid card: No action needed. The card is topped up automatically.

What details does my recipient need to provide?

Bank transfer (JMD / USD): Full name, bank name, account number, and account type (savings or current, most Jamaican accounts are savings). Note that business accounts are not supported, only personal accounts.

Bank pickup / Cash pickup: Your recipient's full name exactly as it appears on their ID, and their phone number. Make sure to enter these correctly when sending: the name must match the ID your recipient presents at collection.

PayToCard / Prepaid card: Full name and card number.

How does my recipient cash out?

Bank transfer

Funds are deposited directly into your recipient's bank account. No action is needed once KYC is complete.

If you sent a transfer outside Jamaican banking hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm):

  • VMBS recipients: allow up to 1 additional business day
  • All other banks: funds typically arrive within 2 hours of the next business day opening

Cash pickup (VMBS and JMMB)

Your recipient will receive an SMS once the transfer is ready for collection. To collect:

  1. 1Visit any VMBS or JMMB branch location in Jamaica
  2. 2Present a valid government-issued photo ID
  3. 3Provide the transfer reference number

Funds are typically available within minutes of the transfer being sent, during branch opening hours. Hours vary by location. Your recipient should check before visiting:

PayToCard

Funds go directly to the Visa or Mastercard debit card number you provided. Your recipient can use the card immediately for purchases and ATM withdrawals. Fees and limits depend on your recipient's card issuer.

Prepaid card (JMMB Money Transfer Visa Prepaid Card)

Funds are loaded directly onto the card and available immediately. Your recipient can use it anywhere Visa is accepted, at ATMs, point of sale terminals, and online, 24/7, with no branch visit needed.

Daily limits:

  • ATM withdrawals: up to J$100,000 per day
  • POS and online purchases: up to J$250,000 per day

ATM fees:

  • Up to 4 free withdrawals per month at JMMB Bank ATMs
  • First withdrawal per month at any other Visa-accepting ATM is free
  • Fees apply after that

There is no fee to receive remittances onto the card and no annual fee.

Your recipient can check their balance at any Visa-certified ATM worldwide, or via their monthly email statement.

Your recipient also earns cashback: 10% on every point accumulated (1 point per J$100 spent), paid out quarterly automatically.

If your recipient does not yet have the card, they can apply online at app.jmmb.com/MTCard. They will need a valid government-issued ID, their TRN, and a selfie. Approval takes approximately 4 business days. No bank account is required.
